Standing up for paper jewellery

Hello All,

I have been fielding these questions about "how to water-proof paper jewellery" for a long time. Yes, we crafters try our best to make them as "resistant" to water but "proof" amounts to someone wanting to dunk the earrings/bracelet/pendant etc into water and expecting it to stay intact. And HERE is my answer to all those who look for water-proofing of paper jewellery:

Happy Quilling

Pritesh

PS: If my posts inspire you to create something on similar lines, I feel highly flattered. But please, do respect the effort I take in conceptualizing and executing, please give a direct link to my work when you are inspired by mine. Thanks for understanding........:-)

Your answer is indeed apt, but my problem lies elsewhere. Why is it that we have to give an explaination for doing/making/creating/selling an item essentially adding to 'aesthetics' and a fulfillment for making an effort to add beauty to this world. I mean sure, isint all 'arts' fragile and indispensible yet appealing to those 'senses' which makes our lives a lot more colourful.

So true... I would rather the end result be paper that looks like its true self.

Well said dear. I have never understood this obsession people have with water proofing stuff! The whole point of paper quilling is that it looks delicate. If u want durable stuff, buy plastic!

Absolutely true. Paper jewelry is to be coveted for the novelty factor, and the delicate designs that one can attain with it. I agree that it needs to be sturdy as to not crumple or damage easily, but water proofing should most certainly not be included in the requirement specs!

Very well said ! No one is going to dunk their precious jewellery or art in water ...whatever it is made of - atleast not intentionally.
I'd rather people who value and love my paper jewellery buy it and take good care of it. Rather than those who cannot value the art.

Agree! I get quite a few people looking disappointed when I say not to wear it in the shower or swimming. I even take my engagement and wedding rings off to go swimming! I might need to explain it to them in your words!
(BTW, my husband is in Pune (from Australia) with work this week - small world!)
