If there was ever a Giveaway I would love to receive, this is the one! I've admired the photos of her hand-made cards for so long, I would give an arm and leg to have one in my hands :-)
Do hop over to her blog to check the Giveaway out :)
A quick post again - a video tutorial for making swirls. The tip? Use heavier paper for the swirls, it holds better......I have used 300 gsm blue paper. Hold the paper strip on the card before cutting it, it'll give you an idea how long a strip you will need.
Over to the video:

I have always been very very curious about how quillers are as people! I think I have a fascination for psychology, for interpersonal interactions. I love to study people's behaviour and well, I get asked very often, we know you as a quiller/scientist but who are you as a person? Who am I? How am I? Oh well.........I think I am just a simple person with loads of interest and interests in life :) Some largely unknown things about me:
1. I am a bad observer! You can carry off a robbery right under my nose and I won't know! :D
2. I love to read! So much so that over anything else, I prefer to read! Total book worm!
3. I sing all the time! Practically all the time, if not aloud, then in my head! :)
4. I am very fond of big machinery, big cars, heavy-duty tools (I have my own spanner sets and drilling tools!). I am a total workman and I love to tinker around with electronics in the house. I can safely claim to be better at Engineering things than my Engineer husband! :D
5. I am a really slow learner! I have to work very hard to imbibe knowledge. I was always the quiet one in all my classes because I just understand things so slowly!
6. I am kinda naive. I take things at face value. When I give someone some responsibility, I believe in them. When people say they are sad/angry/happy, I believe them. I trust! I have a belief that people are basically good! The world is a good place. An idealist, eh?
7. I sulk a lot! :D I am bad at communicating my feelings immediately, so I tend to sulk until I form the least hurting words in my head. Only then do I speak. There are lots of times people have called me a snob because I don't express much in first meetings.
8. I gel better with women! :) I love hanging out in girl gangs and I have nearly always had one to have fun with!
9. I am such a homie! Given a chance, I would prefer to spend my day relaxing, cooking something nice for my husband and playing with my son. I love being home :)
10. I am a sad writer! :D Most of my writings have a sad tinge in them. I guess, my feelings find an outlet somewhere. I used to have (and still have, just that I don't write much there anymore) a blog where I wrote pretty frequently until about a year ago. I hope to be able to write a book (even if unpublished, it will help my kids know me better as a person, I think) on my life some day :)
A quick post, an inspiration to everyone wishing to participate in my Valentine's Day challenge, you don't need hearts, reds or pinks to make a Valentine's Day Card! :D (I have a thing against the heart shape, too cliche, I guess!)............
The golden swirls are hand-drawn, I really enjoy that kind of drawing (and I don't do it often enough). The colours (yet AGAIN!) look a little skewed. It's a very pretty cobalt blue and bright orange combination......the embossed lines on the background are also hand-made, along with the golden dots. I don't think I take much to stamps etc, and hence, nearly completely hand-made card :)
After this, I may be going on a break because relocation blues are approaching......my husband will be a PhD in 18 days' time (boy, I am SO thrilled!)..........I will try posting as and when I can :)

As I see everyone posting their Top 10 posts of 2011 (I actually posted my first post on 27th August and I had been quilling for 13 days then!!!!!!), I thought I will post mine as well :)
1. Noodle Petal Flower
When I just started bending strips, I had no idea that it will end up being the most read of my posts :)
2. Beehive technique video
I must thank Susan for this one! :)
3. My best, I think
This sure is a post very dear to me as I made this one for my very close friend's daughter, who turned one on 6th January :)
4. Blue Hat Tutorial
How I enjoyed making this one! One of my first serious quilling attempts, I still am fond of this little hat :)
5. Quilled wreath and angel tutorial
Yet another one I am particularly fond of because I enjoy beehive technique so much!
6. 3D petal tutorial
I hope people found this one useful, it was a pretty bad quality video, I know!
7. Semi-quilled flower tutorial
8. Quilled K Challenge
Such fantastic participation by people in this challenge and I was so overjoyed at the quality of the projects posted!
9. Quilled Fractal
One of my special ones because of the idea involved, not the quality of quilling :)
10. Pritesh's Giveaway
My first Giveaway, which I loved working for!
Whoa, that is 6/10 tutorials! I am not such a bad teacher after all1 Hehehehehe
I wish to thank everyone, who have, in ways direct or indirect, supported me, encouraged me and even criticized me because ALL of that put together makes me what I am today! :)

I so missed making tutorials that I HAD TO make one today! :D Here is my tutorial for using your shredder is more ways than just plain shredding of paper :) I used Kathy's Pad Challenge colours as the starting point and just rolled and rolled :) I must thank Sharenya for her exclamation when a paper shredding went wrong! She planted the idea in my head that we can try something like this with the paper that otherwise was termed spoiled! :D
You can try a host of variations of this, cut straight (as opposed to at an angle the way I have done!),cut deeper, shallower or leave the shredded ends unrolled, using multiple layers of end-shredder papers, using printed papers, two sided papers.....................sky is just the beginning for variations :) The shredded ends can even be made with hands by those who don't have a shredder. It will be a bit of work but worth trying, I guess :)
I will be posting a tutorial on how you can use your shredder as a fringer the next time. Just need some time to get that going :)
Here is the card I ended up making.. (I feel the card is still incomplete but I just ran out of ideas for 'filling it up' and will take it up later :)
Here is the video (followed by snapshots for slow internet connections!) for making the background...
SNAPSHOTS:
As I said, I have put the paper in at an angle, but you can do it straight too :)
Those (lucky!) ones who have tape runners can use the runners, I don't have one so I use glue :)
I love to make my own scrapbook like patterns on paper, so I am using a gold glitter gel pen. You can effectively use a scrapbook paper as well :)
I decided to edit this post because I got so many queries about the shredder I have used. It is a Ryman Personal A4 shredder (mine is a lurid pink colour though :D), which has an inlet width of 22 cm (it is slightly more than the short edge of an A4 paper). It shreds paper up to 120 gsm or so (I know I push its limit) to strips of slightly more than 3 mm width. I bought it online frmo UK but since they don't deliver to Sweden (delivery ONLY inside UK), I had a friend send it to me by parcel.
The shredder cost only 5 pounds but the delivery (Ryman's charges plus charges for getting it to Sweden) came to 16 pounds. So, totally, it cost me 21 pounds (I know it's expensive!).
For people in India, something similar but USB powered is available from Ebay India. For people in UAE, I think Shaikha stocks a similar shredder but made by Draper. I don't know its specifications but you can ask her. For USA, here is the link.
Hope that inspires you too to create something completely new :)

I am back with a brand new challenge! :) And this is a special one for me as I will be announcing the results from my home country - INDIA!!!!!!!! Yay!
Now, the challenge (not unpredictably) is to make a project for Valentine's Day! So, your loved one can now look forward to a card, tag, bookmark, gift box......blah blah blah from you! But wait wait wait! :) You aren't having it that easy yet! :)
There is a twist!
You have to make a project that should NOT have heart shape pattern (anywhere at all), no red and no pink. By no red, I mean absolutely no red and by no pink, absolutely no pink (not even as support colours). So, pick up those browns, blues, yellows, oranges, purples...........and get creative. You can combine it with as many challenges as you feel like, but it has to be a project you made after my challenge was announced. Only 2 entries per participant please........(I am keeping my job of having to judge easy ;)).
The challenge closes on Feb. 13th at noon (IST). This will be my first day in India, after moving back for good and I want to be happy looking at all the creative creations! :)
The rating system remains the same as my last challenge: 34% weightage to creativity, 33% to skill and 33% to overall neatness and harmony between the elements. Quilling has to be the majority technique in the project.
And now, the PRIZE! Oops, PRIZES! Yes, this time, I will be selecting two winners. One, overall winner and one, "Most creative Idea". The overall prize will get a goodie bag from me, filled with quilling stuff (lots of quilling strips in a host of colours, quilling tool, glue, designer board etc.). The Most Creative Idea winner will win a customized gift from me (i.e. the winner can specify the criteria, I will make the gift accordingly).
Please post the link to your project (if you have a blog) or mail me the pictures at pritzd@gmail.com. Looking forward to some creativity from all of you and THANKS so much for participating :)
A small idea for getting going (the background is actually purple though it looks pink :D):
And yet another idea:

Here I go, with yet another one :) I have so wanted to make a flower like this for so long but things just never fell in place..........I bought these beautiful BIG half pearls and thought I should put these to use :) So, here I am with an embellishment I have used for the first time - large half pearls :)
I chose the colours according to the challenge theme at Colour Throwdown challenge no. 173, so am obviously entering it for that. Other challenges:

Something new from me today! :) On Susan's insistence, I tried distress ink! I can't even say I can pull it off! :D It IS difficult, particularly in the absence of proper tools. I just used a utensil scrub for dabbing and made this extremely simple card, with a very simple quilled flower in the middle :) My husband loved it and I am glad for THAT! :)

Aditi, this took my breath away! Quill me a 'N' too, for my lil sister, who is moving to Hyderabad soon (and I will surely come to meet her AND we shall meet too!!!!!!)
And the winner of this K challenge, whose creation is dedicated to ONE year old Kriyena (my little princess) is:
The last entry by Curly Hair and a Twirly Affair!!!!!!!
Her entry made me smile the moment I looked at it! Those tiny details.......the little butterfly, the sun, the small pink flower.........it instantly reminded me of Kriyena's smile :)
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please email me with your snail-mail address and the letter you wish to have monogrammed! :)
I don't know HOW to thank all of you for making such sincere attempts for my extremely humble challenge! May God bestow happiness on Kriyena always and may she grow up to be a fine woman, setting examples for all the others around her.......love you child :)
