Give me your brains :D

Hello All,

After what seems like forever, I am back, up on my legs, walking, talking AND working! I was overjoyed when Helen sent me an e-mail : Grey Matter in Quilling - Lend me your brains :D I couldn't help laughing out loud! This lady sure knows how to evoke a laugh! :) She was going to write a feature in an Arts and Crafts Magazine about unusual (read "non-floral" quilling).....this was an honour beyond honours! :) She has always been dropping by my blog and leaving behind most honest (my favourite kind) comments. It was she who once before had given me a chance to be a Guest Designer on Homyachok Challenge blog :)

So, here goes, the article on unusual quilling, where the quilled brain finds a mention :) How I wish I knew Russian!!!!!

Thanks a zillion Helen :) Even being mentioned in the same breath as these biggies is a dream you've brought to life :)

Happy Quilling

Happy Valentine's Day :)

Hello All,

Wish you all the starry eyed ones a very very happy Valentine's Day! :) In the honour of the day and also, this being my 100th post, I post here an honour "I" got from Homyachok Scrap Challenge blog: Being a guest design for the theme "Million Red Roses". Love is in the air and it is hard to resist feeling romantic! :)

Here is my creation (a photo-frame) for the challenge, as a guest designer.......

This was a specially tricky project because I am not a fan of pink and certainly, not of hearts. But rising above one's biases helps one mature as a person! :) I tried it and I think I like the final look. The "beehiving" of the heart took almost 5 hours to complete as I was gluing the rolled strips to the base as I was filling it up (large area "beehiving" can pop out if not held securely). The roses are spiral roses (which I was never able to make properly, so I tried some 12 times before I got a hang of it!), as per the requirement of the theme for the challenge :)

I am registering it for Lollipop Cards - With Love challenge

I dedicate this to my best friend, soul-mate and husband, Ananth. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know life could be such a joy ride! He was my inspiration behind taking a step as bold and risky as taking up art full time when I am trained for being a scientist. This day and always, Ananth makes me live life the way one should - ENJOY!

This day is also special as I am in Indiaaaaaaaaaa now! Rest later, after I settle down (I know, I heard that I have to post my Valentine's Day challenge results too! :D).............

Take care all of you, stay warm and stay happy.....

Happy Quilling

Quilled Fractal

Hello All,

This is a REAL quick post as I am off to Aractic Circle and Ice Hotel tomorrow.........I will spend my New Year in the northernmost part of the globe I can access :D

I have been obsessing about what to make for the Homyachok challenge theme. And with the limited time I had, I came up with this: Fractals (everyone was making snowflakes so I could not and did not want to make yet another snowflake)........for those who are not very familiar, fractals are geometric shapes, which on zooming will resemble the overall structure. So, no matter how much you zoom in, the shape remains the same. Frost is well known to form in fractal structures (phew, there goes the chemist in me!) :D

Here is my (extremely simple) version of a fractal.....I wish I had some more time to do justice to the pattern.........but somehow, Homyachok challenge means a lot to me and I am off to a place with no Internet, so I won't be able to make much there :)

Submitting this to Homyachok challenge with theme: Winter Patterns

Wishing you all a very happy, prosperous and creative 2012.............may we see more and more of fantastic quilling in the coming year

Take loads of care and stay warm :)

Happy Quilling
