Against all odds

Hello All,

I have absconded for long periods of time but trust me, bad luck has been following me around like a shadow! And fighting all odds, this project (after a lost phone, two migraines and an eye-injury) has won..........I have managed to finish this seemingly jinxed project and I will pat myself on the back for this.

This project is unique in many aspects.......I have written the poem myself and this is one of my all time favourites! I've used a hand-made paper printed background for the first time. I have tons of these beautiful papers but I could never figure out how to use them. This time, I've taken a chance and I like the finished product :) The 'leaves' are hand-cut, from paper remaining as side strips from my visiting card printing. The paper cutting guy gave me a weird look for wanting to save an inch wide strip! But what the hell, I have used them and I love the way they turned out to be! The styrofoam balls were almost an afterthought and I looooove the way they give the 'ripe berry branch' effect to the project. The pink daisies around the text will remain in my memory because my punch has given way after them! :D I will miss my daisy punch and I hope I will be able to replace it soon.......

Thanks dear S, for placing this order and I hope you like what I have made :) I'll send it to you soon.....

Some new beginnings (and hopefully, long innings) :)

 Hello All,

I had been looking at the amazing works done by some phenomenal artists and, in the middle of my crazy schedule of workshops, I have miraculously managed to squeeze in this card. It is for a very special person and I hope she likes it too :)

This is a beginning with many new things: I've done paper cutting like that for the first time. The leaves were cut in paper and then, given black background from behind. I've used a "tile" pattern for the first time (I had this punch for more than 2 months but could never figure out how to put it to use :) Thanks to Nupur Priya, I now intend to use it regularly :)

I have a workshop day after and I am so looking forward to it. It's in my second home, Bangalore!!!!! Bangalore, here I come.......I will be a bit inactive for next one week but I hope to return with some good things.........hopefully, some new things as well :)

....still can't take my eyes off you.........

Hello All,

This is a post really close to my heart and I dedicate it to Meg Crawford, who finally brought about the inspiration for this card. Her purple papers (I no longer am worried that I may not get them!) motivated me into creating this unusual card........something I wouldn't otherwise do :)

This card is dedicated to all those women out there (like me!) who believe in asking their Mr. Right out :) I asked mine and well, I am happily married to him, a lovely baby and a life I wouldn't trade for any other! :)

Thanks a ton Meg! Her "Card for a Man" challenge got me going...........and (after a sleepless night over the concept) here is my creation for it :) Though very belated, here is my B'day wish for him! I still can't take my eyes off him! ;)

This isn't exactly a card that involves any tricky quilling or any skill, for that matter. I've used a mixture of sketch-pen, paper cutting and quilling to get here. My inspiration (please don't laugh) was a set of false eye-lashes I saw in the market the other day! :D

Tail end of workshops

Hello All,

What an eventful summer vacation this has been! I was on my toes literally, trying to catch up with the number of workshops, at home, in a Summer camp and outstation! Phew! Tomorrow and day after are the last two of an intensive Kids' class schedule and I have mixed feelings about it. I will miss the kids, their smiles, whisperings, creativity, totally out-of-the-box ideas..........but well, they need to get back to school! And me, to finishing my orders!

Some images from my workshops :)

Here are some small things I managed to squeeze in, in the middle of all the maddening workshop schedules.....

Hope to return soon with more :)

A quick quilled A

Hello All,

I have always admired how effectively people use crimped paper as an outline. I'd been eying a chance to try the same and here I had it :) I have outlined the golden leaves with crimped black paper. A really quick quilled "A" (do I always quill A monograms???) for a really close friend :) The font ia a modified version of Sapphire Sativa :)

Spring and summer :)

Hello All,

After hours and hours of donkey work, I finally managed to finish this project! :) And if you're wondering why I am hell bent on the term donkey work, consider this. Each fringed bunch in the bottlebrush flower (red bunch) has a paper strip 10.5 cm long and within that much, it has been fringed more than 250 times!!!!! I felt like I'll have grandchildren by the time I finish this project! Hehehe, but no worries, my son is still 1.5 yrs old! :D The font I've used is called Emporium Capitals :)

In this post, I have to give a HUGE thanks to Baloo Uncle, for the Fiskars fringing scissors which FINALLY made me overcome my fear of fringing! I used to dread it so much but fringing is a song now and I am revelling in the feeling :) The bottlebrush wouldn't have been possible without you.......I hope my client approves of what I have made for her :)

Another big thanks to my client, who is one of my dearest friends, for all the good times together, the whale, whalee and whaloo times! :D :D Those were the craziest moments of my life! :) A thanks to Meg Crawford whose fringing helped me try fringing or else, I'd have just kept away from it. Her suggestion of spring loaded scissors finally worked and I am not averse to fringing anymore :)

Am submitting this for "For the Love of Crafting" Spring challenge , using spring colours and 2 butterflies :) :)

Donkey work to fruition :)

Hello All,

I have had indigestion hiding this project but I wanted to finish it and only then, display it :) There was so much donkey work involved in it, the leaves, the flowers, the fringing in the feathers!!!! Phew!!!!!

But I am positively proud of this one because of all the designing that went into it! I have a huge thanks to give to my husband, whose inputs were always very helpful :)

I hope the lady who ordered it likes it :)

Contrast Veined Combed Leaf Tutorial

Dear All,

I got so many questions regarding the leaf I quilled (which is a small part of a much bigger project) that I decided to sit down and make a video of the same. I apologize for all the background noise :) [Sonia, I will upload the snapshots very soon] :) The original of this leaf was conceptualized by Anastasia, I am merely posting a tutorial for a variation of that :)

The leaf looks like this:

And here is the video for the leaf :)

Do try it out, I found it so much fun :)

Spot the difference

It rarely happens that I get angry..............but this is one of those days that really get to me! Someone decides not only to post a ditto copy of my creation online (right under my nose!!!!!) but also insists that "I" downloaded the picture from Google and uploaded it calling it mine. God, forgive me for sounding condescending, but I am blessed enough to have designing capability AND lack of gall to post a design someone else came up with! For anyone who ever wishes to copy my designs and not give credit, the post-script in my posts will be in bold font here on!!!!!!!

To the left is my design (supposed to have been downloaded from Google and called my own) and to the right is the dear pilferer's design............

A post full of news

Hello All,

I have been away for a while now, thanks to all the illnesses that seem to haunt my family. But it's all ok now. Everyone is on the path to recovery and I hope I will be more active in quilling now. There is a Shhhh project on my hand and it'll take a week or so to take it to completion. There are classes to be planned and there are orders to be cleared! There never seem enough hours in a day! :)

I have good tidings................and lots of them. :) [Sorry for the point-wise post but I am a compulsive organizer :D]

1. I was fortunate enough to be voted the winner of the March Challenge of Emirates Quilling Guild , the theme bring "Love". I am honoured and thankful, to all the people who voted for me and all those too, who cared to drop by to look :) My entry for the challenge was the fastest ever order I completed.....in the middle of packing for relocating from Stockholm! This piece is very close to me, because it weathered such conditions for its creation and because it is made for a very very dear friend :)

And, of course, thank you Amna for giving me the opportunity and Shaikha for the prize :) I am so eagerly looking forward to receiving it....

2. Szalonaisa was sweet enough to award me the "Versatile Blogger Award"! Szalo, you've no idea how much it means to me! :) I will need to write a separate post to do justice to the rules, just give me some time dear!

3. I was fortunate to be picked by Deepthi Udupa for an interview for "Creating Success Around the World" world-wide blog-hop. I can't deny that recognition of one's work doesn't feel good :) It was both a pleasure and an honour! :)

I hope I will soon have some 'quilling' to share with you all............in the mean time, keep smiling :)
