Hello All,
If I say I've been bursting with things to say, I'd be grossly understating it........
After two months of working, here I unveil the very pretty, coy and colourful Rapunzel......
At the outset, let me clarify that this is NOT my design. The original of this is a digital painting by Barnali Bagchi, which has been adapted (heavily in places, actually) to quilling. I can never thank the lady enough for creating a stunning piece that I couldn't resist quilling.......
For the first time in my quilling career, I spent 1.5 months just figuring out how to convert this painting to quilling. And as usual, there were anxiety pangs about whether I could even make it at all!
The most daunting factor in this painting was its size. Massive is more like it. The painting stood at 3 feet x 4 feet and I literally stared at the blank board, alternating between escapism and determination. Finally, I got started and the first part (quillographed outline) was a song. Once the hair started, my nightmare began. It was only much later that Barnali was kind enough to inform me that the dame's name is Rapunzel! For almost 1 month, I made JUST tresses! Some snippets from the WIP (work in progress) times.......
Pre-beginning printout, which is a compilation of 8 prints of A3 size..... |
Version 1 of the lady's face (which was scrapped to make a better once later) |
A bit of progress :) |
And this should put the size in perspective :) |
The flowers getting added up |
The never-ending tresses! Rapunzel indeed |
Nearing completion |
Version 1 of background, which gave way to a different one later on |
Nearly over, just a little short of completion...... |
And one of those rare times when I have a photo of me working on the project :) Thanks to my husband for this :)
I also have to thank Manali for doing the beehiving on the right arm of the "moon" Rapunzel is perched on. Thank you to Richa too, for doing the left arm of the "moon" :)
Happy Quilling

Hello, Pritesh, It is Me again!! Just want to let you know, that I had a hard time finding the comment tag on you blog because of the yellow color of lettering. You might want to change it only because more people 'I'm sure are going to want to leave a message, but the color makes it difficult to find. I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound pushy . It's just hard to read the yellow words. And I know you view your comments before you publish them so that this will be deleted. :0) Peace be Yours

Pritesh this is just awesome, the size of this frame makes it look more fantastic. Many congratulations to you for completing it.
Though I want to know few things from you
1) did you trace the design with pencil or the just the impression the way you taught in the typography workshop.
2) The stripes used are pre-cut ones or made with paper shredder
3) What is the thickness if the stripes used?
And last can you put a video of how did u do the hair.
It would be great if you could answer..
oh how i wish i have your talent and patience and enthusiasm and all!! may i know, how did you keep your artwork like this? how to maintain it? to make sure it will not damage?

I dabble in a lot of different arts n crafts.. This quilling that you have done is simply great.. Have been attempting quilling by seeing tutorials on the net.. But this is completely the nt level...
This has given me an idea that I should soon be able to execute ( with a 10 yr old n a 8 month old:) ) .. Will post it for your comments..
I loved all your work and the tutorials posted. Will be a regular on your blog..
Wow I am absolutely stunned! ! I am fabric designer my own handdyes..and a quilter, and a jewlery designer. I am very very familiar with quilling. In fact in my studio is a place to practice. I do some paper art but leave the amazing stuff to my friends. You sir are an artist. The original painting is also but I know how much work you went through to do this. Lol and to have to scrap items along the way is so difficult! Your husband is most patient and a great photogragher. I wish I could have seen more pics of u working. But understand privacy. Will be following your blog from now on!! Thank you for sharing!!
Holey Schmoley, this brings quilling to a whole new level. Amazomg/
